Musubi Kiln Oval Basketry Japanese Flower Vase
Buy it now

Crafted from young bamboo culms harvested in Oita Prefecture, this basketry flower vase is created through more than ten careful steps, from the first cut to the final, intricate weave. Thin bamboo strips are handwoven by seasoned artisans with exceptional precision, forming lines that feel balanced and fluid. The handle gives a lightness to the overall form and softens the silhouette.

Inside, the Arita ware porcelain vase is equally considered in its design. Offered in two pairings, the light, natural bamboo weave is matched with a cylindrical insert in a soft blue tone, finished with fine speckles created by flicking glaze onto the surface with a specialized tool. The black vessel is paired with an earth-toned insert in warm, reddish hues, giving the arrangement a more dramatic, grounded look. With its porcelain insert, this piece is offered as a customized design for MUSUBI KILN.

In Japanese culture, bamboo’s fast, upright growth has long been associated with prosperity and good fortune. Made from natural bamboo strips, this piece is carefully finished, with edges smoothed for a clean, polished look. As light passes through the weave, it casts soft, dappled shadows, bringing an organic elegance to any space.

Sourced via Musubi Kiln from Japan's historic pottery towns - Kutani, Arita, Mino and beyond. Each piece is made and painted in Japan. Imported.
